Which Breast Implant Types are Right for You? Exploring Your Options

Key Takeaways:

  1. Different breast implant types have different benefits and drawbacks, and it is important to understand them before making a decision.
  2. Factors such as desired look, body type, and lifestyle should be taken into consideration when choosing the right implant type.
  3. Partnering with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon is essential to achieving the best breast augmentation outcome.

Introduction

You’re at a crossroads. You’ve decided to undergo breast augmentation, and now comes the crucial part. Choosing the right breast implant type that will suit your body and achieve your desired look. Being well-informed on the various breast implant options is essential to making the best decision for your body and lifestyle.

Saline Implants

These implants consist of a silicone shell filled with sterile saline solution, offering a uniform shape and firmness. Saline implants have long been a popular choice for women seeking breast augmentation.

Benefits of saline implants include a slightly lower cost and easier detection of leaks. However, drawbacks may include a less natural feel and the possibility of visible implant wrinkling or rippling. Candidates for saline implants should have a sufficient amount of natural breast tissue to minimize the visibility of the implant edges.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are made up of a silicone shell filled with a cohesive silicone gel, which provides a more natural feel and appearance than saline implants.

The advantages of silicone implants include a more natural look and feel, and a lower risk of visible rippling or wrinkling. Some drawbacks are the higher cost and the need for regular monitoring using MRI or ultrasound to assess the implant’s condition. Candidates for silicone implants often seek a more natural look and feel, with at least 22 years of age being the FDA-approved guideline.

Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants, also known as form-stable implants, consist of a silicone shell filled with a firmer, highly cohesive silicone gel. They maintain their shape even when cut in half, resembling the texture of a gummy bear candy.

The benefits of gummy bear implants include a more natural look, greater stability of shape and position, and reduced chances of leakage. On the downside, they might require a larger incision and can potentially rotate within the breast pocket, leading to an uneven appearance. Candidates for gummy bear implants are often seeking a more naturally-shaped breast.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer breast augmentation involves removing fat from other areas of your body, such as the abdomen or thighs, and injecting it into the breasts. This method offers a more natural alternative to traditional breast implants.

The benefits of fat transfer include a shorter recovery time, natural-looking results, and reduced risks associated with implants. The drawbacks include the need for sufficient body fat and the possibility of unpredictable fat absorption rates. Candidates for fat transfer should have enough body fat to harvest, and are often looking for a more subtle increase in breast size.

Combination Implants

Combination implants use both silicone gel and saline solution within the same implant, offering the benefits of both types.

Pros of combination implants include the natural feel of silicone with the adjustable size of saline, and easier detection of leaks. Cons may include higher costs and limited availability. Candidates for combination implants are generally seeking a balance between the benefits of saline and silicone implants.

Choosing the Right Implant Type

To determine the best breast implant type for you, consider factors such as your desired look, your body type, and your lifestyle. Discuss your goals and concerns with a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon, who will guide you in making an informed decision based on your unique needs.

Jaime Hill, RN: Different Types of Injectables in Plastic Surgery

Key Takeaways:

  1. Injectables offer a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery with shorter appointment times and less downtime.
  2. Fillers can be used to create subtle changes in the face, such as a liquid rhinoplasty and to build up the jawline and cheekbones.
  3. Toxin injections are not only used to reduce wrinkles, but can also be used to treat TMJ disorder and excessive sweating.

Jaime Hill, RN: Different Types of Injectables in Plastic Surgery

In today’s world, the need for aesthetic improvements and quality of life enhancements is evident. People often want to achieve their desired aesthetics without going under the knife. In this article, we explore the exciting world of injectables in plastic surgery with Jaime Hill from Politis Plastic Surgery, Tampa, FL. Hear her insights on fillers, biostimulators, and toxin injections to help you make an informed decision about the right treatment for you.

The Rise of Injectables

Jaime Hill explains the growing popularity of injectables: “Patients that want to improve their aesthetics but maybe don’t want to go under anesthesia for it. We can do different types of injectables right here in the office.” Injectables offer a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery, with shorter appointment times and less downtime. “You’re here for maybe 20-30 minutes,” states Hill, highlighting the convenience of these treatments.

Fillers: Light and Shadows

Fillers can be used to create subtle changes in the face, and according to Hill, “It’s all about light and shadows with the face.” Fillers can be used to perform a liquid rhinoplasty, which involves making modifications to the nose without going under the knife. But fillers don’t stop there; they can also be used to build up jawlines or cheekbones for a more youthful appearance.

As we age, both men and women tend to experience facial changes that can cause a hollowing effect. Fillers can be used to rejuvenate the face, restoring a youthful glow. Hill explains, “As women and men, as we age, we hollow out so we lose some of that youthfulness, so those are good ways to give some rejuvenation back into your face and to your skin.”

Toxin Injections: More Than Just Botox

While Botox is the most well-known toxin injection, there are other brands available, all of which offer similar results. “We can do toxin injections, which most people know by the term Botox, but there are different brands that we offer here as well,” says Hill.

Toxin injections are not limited to reducing wrinkles; they can also be used to address other health concerns. Hill explains that these injections can be used to treat TMJ disorder or jaw clenching, providing relief from painful symptoms. Furthermore, she highlights an unexpected benefit for Floridians: “You can get toxin injections in your armpits, which actually, in Florida, would be a great thing because it stops sweating.” For those suffering from hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, toxin injections can provide relief and improved quality of life.

My name is Jamie Hill and I’m with Politis Plastic Surgery.
Patients that want to improve their aesthetics but maybe don’t want to go under anesthesia for it.
We can do different types of injectables right here in the office. We can do fillers, biostimulators.
We can do toxin injections which most people know by the term Botox but there are different brands that we offer here as well.
Those are minimally invasive. You’re here for maybe 20-30 minutes. We’re able to do those injections. With filler, we can do what we call liquid rhinoplasty where we can do modifications to the nose if you have a little hump that you want to smooth out.
It’s all about light and shadows with the face and so if we can change the way light hits your face, it’s going to look different and so we definitely use those fillers in that way if you want to build up your jaw, if you want to build up your cheekbones.
As women and men, as we age, we hollow out so we lose some of that youthfulness so those are good ways to give some rejuvenation back into your face and to your skin.
We can also use toxin injections to treat people that have TMJ disorder or people that find they clench their jaws a lot.
You can do it here in the jaw and it actually loosens that up so that you can move. It can be used to treat patients that have hyperhidrosis which is excessive sweating. You can get toxin injections in your armpits which actually in Florida would be a great thing because it stops sweating.
Really a nice little adjunct that you can see here. Thank you.

Reclaim Your Confidence with a Mommy Makeover

Key Takeaways:

  • A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures tailored to help moms regain their pre-pregnancy confidence and body shape.
  • Procedures such as extended abdominoplasty, liposuction, and breast mastopexy can be combined to create a more sculpted and toned appearance.
  • Working with a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Effie Politis is essential to achieve optimal results and ensure your safety throughout the process.

Becoming a mother is a life-changing event, and for many women, it can significantly impact their body image. If you’re a mom looking to regain your pre-pregnancy confidence, a mommy makeover might be the perfect solution. Dr. Effie Politis, a renowned plastic surgeon in Tampa, FL, specializes in helping moms of all ages feel confident and beautiful again.

mommy makeover typically includes a combination of procedures tailored to your unique needs and goals. For this 38-year-old mom of twins, Dr. Politis performed an extended abdominoplasty with liposuction of the central abdomen and flanks, a bilateral breast mastopexy, and liposuction of the axilla. Each of these procedures contributed to a more toned and sculpted appearance, ultimately helping the patient feel like herself again.

Extended abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen while tightening the underlying muscles. This is particularly helpful for moms who have experienced muscle separation or stretched skin due to pregnancy. Liposuction is then used to sculpt and contour the abdomen and flanks, providing a sleeker, more defined silhouette.

bilateral breast mastopexy, or breast lift, is another essential component of a mommy makeover. This procedure lifts and reshapes sagging breasts, restoring their youthful appearance. Dr. Effie Politis can also perform liposuction in the axilla area, addressing any excess fat deposits for a more polished look.

As a skilled plastic surgeon in Tampa, FL, Dr. Effie Politis will work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. Together, you’ll determine which procedures will best help you achieve your desired results. Regain your confidence and love your body again with a mommy makeover designed just for you.

Facial Implants: Benefits, Risks, and Alternatives

Key Takeaways:

  • Facial implants can address signs of aging, post-traumatic defects, or anatomic irregularities, but come with risks such as infection or implant migration.
  • Dermal fillers and skin tightening procedures offer minimally invasive alternatives to facial implants, providing a more adjustable and temporary solution.
  • Working with an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Effie Politis is crucial for achieving optimal results while minimizing risks and complications.

Facial implants have long been a solution for those seeking to address signs of aging, post-traumatic defects, or anatomic irregularities. As a plastic surgeon in Tampa, FL, Dr. Effie Politis has extensive experience in helping patients achieve their desired results through facial implants and other procedures. However, it’s essential to understand the risks and alternatives associated with facial implants to make an informed decision about your treatment plan.

Facial implants can significantly improve one’s appearance, especially in the midface or chin areas. With the advent of profile balancing using fillers, the popularity of facial implants has waned. However, chin implants, in particular, continue to offer excellent results when appropriately sized and placed.

Despite their benefits, facial implants can pose several risks, as seen in the video featuring a patient with exaggerated cheek and chin implants. Overstretched tissue from oversized implants can lead to complications such as migration or extrusion of the implants. Additionally, the mobility of the face increases the risk of infection. It’s crucial to be prudent and do thorough research before committing to any procedure.

There are alternatives to facial implants that can help you achieve a more youthful and balanced appearance. For instance, dermal fillers offer a minimally invasive option for adding volume and contour to your face. These fillers can be a more temporary and easily adjustable solution for addressing signs of aging or enhancing facial features.

Skin tightening procedures, such as radiofrequency treatments or ultrasound-based therapies, can also provide a more youthful appearance without the need for implants. These treatments stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, more toned skin.

Dr. Effie Politis emphasizes the importance of a less-is-more approach to facial augmentation. By working with a skilled plastic surgeon in Tampa, FL, you can explore various options to achieve the desired results while minimizing risks. Visit Dr. Effie Politis’ website to learn more about facial implants, skin tightening, and other minimally invasive procedures.

What is a Neck Lift Procedure?

Key Takeaways:

  1. A neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure used to tighten and smooth the neck for a more youthful appearance.
  2. Ideal candidates for a neck lift are those in good health, nonsmokers, and those who have realistic expectations.
  3. Neck lift procedures should be performed by board-certified plastic surgeons with a proven track record of excellent results.

When it comes to battling the signs of aging, the neck can be a formidable opponent. Despite your best efforts to stay fit and healthy, the neck can sag and wrinkle, betraying your age and stealing your confidence. Enter the neck lift, a plastic surgery procedure that tightens and smooths the neck for a more youthful appearance. So, let’s explore the importance of this procedure and take a closer look at how it works.

Understanding the Neck Lift Procedure

First, it’s important to determine if you’re a suitable candidate for a neck lift. Ideal candidates are those in good health, nonsmokers, and those who have realistic expectations. The procedure can address loose skin, sagging, and wrinkling, but it is not a solution for everyone

When it comes to neck lift techniques, there are several options. The most common include the traditional neck lift, which removes excess skin and tightens underlying muscles; a liposuction-assisted neck lift, which eliminates excess fatty deposits; and a non-surgical neck lift, which uses injectables to provide a temporary lift.

During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will make small incisions near your ears and potentially under your chin to access the neck area. They will then remove excess skin, fat, and muscle, as well as tighten underlying tissues. The result is a smoother, more youthful-looking neck.

As with any surgical procedure, there are anesthesia options available. These include general anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Your plastic surgeon will discuss which option is best suited for you.

Recovery and Results

After your neck lift, you can expect a period of recovery. This will involve some bruising, swelling, and discomfort, all of which should subside within a few weeks. Your surgeon will provide you with specific postoperative care instructions to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.

As for the results, you can expect a rejuvenated, younger-looking neck that will last for years to come. Keep in mind that the timeline for seeing the final results may vary, so patience is key. While complications are rare, as with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of infection, bleeding, and scarring. Be sure to discuss these risks with your plastic surgeon.

Cost and Availability

The cost of a neck lift varies depending on the technique used, the extent of the procedure, and the location of your surgery. Your surgeon can provide a quote during your consultation. Many plastic surgery clinics offer payment options and financing plans to help make the procedure more accessible.

Neck lifts can be performed by board-certified plastic surgeons across the country, but finding the right surgeon for you is essential. Be sure to research and choose a surgeon who specializes in neck lift procedures and has a proven track record of excellent results.

Conclusion

In summary, a neck lift is a highly effective procedure for achieving a more youthful and refined appearance. It can address excess skin, sagging, and wrinkling, and provide a significant boost to your confidence.

If you’re considering a neck lift, there’s no better place to turn than Politis Plastic Surgery in Tampa, FL. Headed by the highly skilled Dr. Effie Politis, you’ll receive personalized care and attention from a board-certified plastic surgeon with a keen eye for detail. Don’t let an aging neck hold you back – take control and reclaim your confidence with a neck lift from Dr. Effie Politis today.

Patient Satisfaction After Breast Surgery

Key Takeaways:

  1. Patient-reported outcome studies provide comprehensive overviews of patient satisfaction with breast surgeries.
  2. Satisfaction rates for autologous and implant-based reconstructions differ, but autologous reconstruction tends to provide higher satisfaction levels over time.
  3. Choosing an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Effie Politis at Politis Plastic Surgery in Tampa, FL is essential for the best possible results.

What You Need to Know About Breast Surgery Satisfaction

Breast surgery, be it for reconstruction or augmentation, is an intensely personal decision that can have significant implications on both physical appearance and mental well-being. Many factors contribute to a patient’s satisfaction with their results, but it is essential to understand that satisfaction levels can change over time, especially as their body naturally evolves. Not all breast surgeries are created equal. Dr. Effie Politis of Politis Plastic Surgery in Tampa, FL speaks about the current state of patient satisfaction research in breast surgery to help you make informed decisions about your own surgery journey.

The Importance of Patient-Reported Outcome Studies

Recent research predominantly focuses on patient-reported outcome studies. These studies gather data from different centers and give a comprehensive overview of the satisfaction levels experienced by patients. Dr. Effie Politis emphasizes their importance, saying, “these are very important for us to be aware of, to be able to educate the patients.” Keeping abreast of these studies allows prospective patients to make informed decisions about what type of surgery they should choose.

Autologous vs. Implant-Based Reconstruction Satisfaction Rates

Two main types of breast reconstruction are autologous reconstruction, which uses your own tissue, and implant-based reconstruction. According to the recent studies mentioned by Dr. Politis, satisfaction rates differ for each technique, especially in the initial stages. With direct implant reconstruction, younger patients report high satisfaction rates of 80 to 90% within the first ten years. However, it is important to note that revision surgery may be required over time, as “their body will change just like anything, its skin, it stretches…”

Autologous reconstruction, on the other hand, has a lower initial satisfaction rate due to the longer recovery time. Despite this, patients generally become happier with the results over time because the reconstruction is based on their tissue and does not require as many revisions as implant-based reconstruction.

Choosing the Right Option for You

Understanding the differences in satisfaction rates between autologous and implant-based reconstruction is essential in helping you make the best decision for your body and your future self. While the satisfaction rates may initially be higher for implant-based reconstruction, be prepared for potential revision surgeries as your body changes over time. On the other hand, autologous reconstruction may have a lower initial satisfaction rate, but patients tend to be happier in the long run, as it is less likely to require revisions.

Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon in Tampa, FL

Ultimately, the success of any breast surgery largely depends on the skill and expertise of the plastic surgeon you choose to work with. Dr. Effie Politis and her clinic, Politis Plastic Surgery in Tampa, FL, provide high-quality care and thorough consultation to ensure their patients receive the best possible results.

By choosing Politis Plastic Surgery and working with an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Effie Politis, you have access to the most up-to-date research and patient-reported outcomes to make informed decisions about your breast surgery journey. Trust that Dr. Politis will help guide you through the process, and together, you can achieve the results you desire.

Hi, my name is Dr. Effie Politis with Politis Plastic Surgery.
Yeah, so there’s actually been a lot of studies and data that have recently been published.
So they studied the younger age group cohort of patients and older patients and they’ve studied autologous versus implant-based reconstruction, so using their own tissue versus implants. And a lot of the studies we’re doing now are level three for evidence, which means they’re meta-analysis, multiple centers, and they are grouped in something called patient-reported outcome studies. And these are very important for us to be aware of, to be able to educate the patients. So we want to tell them that with implant-based surgeries in the younger cohort, they will likely, even if we get everything perfect the first shot, do a direct implant reconstruction, the patient studies show that they have a high 80 to 90% satisfaction rate within the first 10 years, but again, their body will change just like anything, its skin, it stretches, they will require revision surgery, okay? With autologous reconstruction, actually the satisfaction rate is much lower initially because of the long recovery time.
This is a little bit different subset of patients though, but then over time, typically they are very happy with it because it’s their own tissue and it really isn’t implant-based or it doesn’t require much revisions.

A post shared by Effie Politis, MD, FACS (@dreffiepolitis)

In the world of plastic surgery, there are various conditions that patients may face, some of which are more common than others. One such rare condition is Symmastia, a term used to describe the appearance of a “uni-boob.” Dr. Effie Politis, a renowned plastic surgeon in Tampa, FL, shares insights into this condition and its causes.

Symmastia occurs when the ligaments across the chest wall connecting the breasts become confluent, creating the appearance of a single breast. While it is a rare condition, it can be either congenital, meaning the person is born with it, or acquired through implant-based surgery.

In cases where Symmastia is acquired through surgery, it typically happens when implants are placed under the muscle and are too large for the patient’s body or chest wall. This can cause the pectoralis muscle to lift and shift the implants to both sides, separating the skin in the middle and resulting in the appearance of a “uni-boob.”

As a knowledgeable plastic surgeon in Tampa, FL, Dr. Effie Politis emphasizes the importance of understanding the potential risks and complications that may arise from breast augmentation surgery. Choosing the right size and type of implant, as well as a skilled surgeon, can help minimize these risks and ensure the best possible outcome.

When dealing with congenital Symmastia, patients may seek corrective surgery to address the condition and achieve their desired appearance. In such cases, it is crucial to consult with a highly experienced plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Effie Politis, who can provide expert guidance and develop a personalized treatment plan.

By understanding the causes and implications of Symmastia, patients can make informed decisions about their plastic surgery journey. Trusting an expert like Dr. Effie Politis ensures a safer, more successful outcome and helps patients achieve the look they desire.

Understanding Facelift Risks

Key Takeaways:

  1. Facelifts can offer long-lasting results, but also come with risks such as infection, hematoma, nerve damage, and scarring.
  2. Factors such as age, smoking, pre-existing medical conditions, medications, and skin type can increase the likelihood of risks.
  3. To minimize risks and maximize the chances of a successful facelift, choose an experienced and certified plastic surgeon, follow pre- and post-surgery instructions, and be candid about your medical history.

As you peer into the mirror, searching for the face of your youth, the idea of a facelift might flutter into your thoughts. A facelift – medically known as rhytidectomy – is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at rejuvenating the facial appearance by reducing sagging skin and wrinkles. However, before you commit to going under the knife, it’s essential to understand the risks involved. This article aims to provide a comprehensive guide through the benefits and risks of undergoing a facelift, and how to minimize those risks

Benefits of Facelift

Many have sung the praises of facelifts, marveling at the procedure’s ability to restore a youthful appearance to the face. A successful facelift can result in tightened skin, smoothed wrinkles, and an overall more refreshed look. This improved appearance can significantly boost self-confidence – after all, when you look good, you feel good. Furthermore, facelifts offer long-lasting results, with effects persisting for up to ten years

Risks of Facelift

But, as with any surgical procedure, a facelift comes with risks. Potential complications include infection, which can arise from bacteria entering the incisions. Hematoma, or blood pooling beneath the skin, is another risk that may require further surgery to alleviate the pressure. Nerve damage is also a possibility, which can lead to varying degrees of facial paralysis. Scarring is an inevitable consequence of surgery, but excessive or raised scars may not be the aesthetically desired result. Anesthesia complications, such as an allergic reaction, are rare but not unheard of. Lastly, there’s always the risk of unsatisfactory results, where the individual’s vision of post-op perfection doesn’t quite align with reality

Factors that Increase Risk

Several factors can increase the likelihood of experiencing these risks. Age, for example, can significantly impact the skin’s elasticity and healing capabilities. Smoking is another risk amplifier, as it impairs blood circulation and hinders the healing process. Pre-existing medical conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, can also affect the surgery and recovery. Medications, particularly blood thinners, can exacerbate the risk of complications. Your skin type, too, plays a role in your propensity for scarring. And, of course, the experience of your chosen plastic surgeon can make or break your facelift experience.

Prevention of Risks

To minimize these risks and maximize the chances of a successful facelift, take the following preventative steps. First, choose an experienced and certified plastic surgeon, such as Tampa, FL’s esteemed Dr. Effie Politis. Research the surgeon’s track record, certification, and reviews. Be candid about your medical history and disclose any conditions or medications that could impact the surgery. Prior to the procedure, follow your surgeon’s instructions for preparation, which may include adjusting medications or quitting smoking. Finally, adhere to post-surgery instructions regarding care and follow-up appointments

Conclusion

In conclusion, understanding the risks and benefits of facelifts is crucial for making an informed decision about whether the procedure is right for you. Taking preventative measures can help minimize these risks and improve the likelihood of a successful outcome.

Hi, my name is Dr. Effie Politis with Politis Plastic Surgery.
Yes, that’s a good question. You know, it actually occurred to me in middle school. So I was doing well academically and I did, I think I was drawn to the math and sciences which is kind of a cliche so it’s not necessary to be drawn into the math and sciences but I started some art classes in middle school in a tiny, it’s amazing that our tiny public schools offered actually some great teachers and opportunities.

So some drawing classes, art classes and in high school I took that to pottery and sculpting more but so I was kind of using that left side of the brain and the right side. I did science fairs and would usually go to the national level but because of that my parents were, they were Greek so they were like, you either become a doctor or a lawyer.

And I was in the International Baccalaureate Program in high school so that is, actually it was in Port Orange, it was one of the original ones.
I mean we had people driving from Titusville, of course Orlando and Daytona to come to that. It was one of the original International Baccalaureate Programs so it was pretty tough but it prepared you for college.
