Hi My name is Dr. Effie Politis with Politis Plastic Surgery.
Breast Implant Surgery removal has been very popular lately, especially with all the social media concerns around this Breast Implant illness. So I tell the patients it’s their body, if they want their implants removed that’s completely fine with us. We try to counsel them so there’s no drastic maneuvers done that are unnecessary and that means like we don’t to be, if there are no capsular contracture issues with their implants we don’t want to cause any other problems. So Breast Implant Removal is also satisfying, as I’ve said our bodies change with time and with age and with having kids. So sometimes women either gain weight or their breast tissue, post menopausal changes to a more fatty breast tissue, they gain some breast tissue and they don’t really want their breast implant anymore, they don’t need them, they are actually heavy. So what we do in those cases is we examine them and we come up with a plan. Most of the time they are great candidates for implant removal but we need to talk about what would their breast look after worst, what their breast would look like after implant removal. It usually requires another or a surgery at the time to reposition their remaining breast tissue. If they’re looking for maintaining their fullness, we can use their remaining breast tissue and doing auto-augmentation, to continue that upper fullness that they’re reaching for. But if they think their breast are so enlarged and they’ve gained weight, then we remove the implant, we do a breast reduction or a Mastopexy and reposition everything as needed, so that means removing some of the excess breast tissue.
