WHAT it is:
Aveli is a quick, minimally invasive in-office procedure or surgical add on that is the end all be all for cellulite removal. This FDA-cleared treatment targets unwanted dimples in the buttocks and thighs by finding and releasing the septa. The septa are the fibrous bands in the skin that cause dimpling by pulling the skin inward.
HOW it’s done:
Aveli is an in-office procedure or surgical add on that takes around 45 minutes, depending on the amount of dimpling to be corrected. It can be combined with liposuction of the thighs and flanks and/or a tummy tuck to improve your overall results. Dr. Politis starts by administering a local anesthetic in the treatment area to numb and prep the skin. The handheld Aveli device is then inserted into the deep layers of the skin through small incisions. Dr. Politis slides the device under the skin to hook the bands of septa. The built-in blade severs the septa band, releasing the “dimple” in the skin. Aveli precisely targets the septa, only severing the bands that cause cellulite in the buttocks and thighs.
WHAT to expect:
The effects of Aveli are immediate, but you can expect some swelling and bruising for 24-48 hours after the treatment.
You can expect to see results within 1 month of treatment (after the skin is completely healed), with full results appearing after 3 months.
AWAKE or ASLEEP
In office: Stay awake with local anesthesia and happy pills.
In the OR as a surgical add on: Take a nap with general anesthesia.
RECOVERY, RESULTS & FREQUENCY:
Aveli is a one time procedure that has a permanent fix per treated area.
You can expect to see immediate results with no downtime.
PRE-OP instructions:
Do not take any Aspirin, Plavix, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Coenzyme Q10 or medications containing these compounds for 14 days before your procedure.
Avoid using body lotions, deodorants or perfumes on the day of surgery.
Have a light breakfast 60-90 minutes prior to coming into the office.
Once you’re here, we’ll take photos and you’ll be given a cozy gown, an oral electrolyte, an antibiotic, anti-nausea medication, and a light oral sedative.
POST-OP instructions
It is normal to experience mild discomfort or pain during the first days after the procedure.
Clear or pink fluid may leak from the insertion points for the first 24 – 48 hours and typically resolves in the first week.
If you feel heat or a burning sensation in the treatment area, you may be surprised but do not be alarmed. Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to the area for 10 minutes to help it resolve.
Wear compressive clothing (e.g., yoga pants) as much as possible during the first week, and up to 2 weeks after the procedure, to help reduce bruising and swelling.
You can engage in light physical activity during the first 14 days, but extreme physical activity should be avoided during healing. Strenuous activity may increase side effects.
